What's a science slam?

At a science slam, entertainment meets science. Research topics or scientific projects are presented with wit and charm. The focus is on scientific curiosity and the ability to inspire.

The highlight of the event is: Within just 10 minutes, the slammer must convince the audience. The short presentations, which should be as entertaining and original as possible, are aimed at both a specialist audience and lay people. They must be generally understandable and try to inspire and carry along all listeners without losing sight of the scientific claim of their own subject.

This is also important, because ultimately the audience forms the jury and decides on the winner or winners. Only those who convince everyone may take home the trophy. Anyone who is too polemical or too cerebral and thus incurs the disfavor of the audience will be left empty-handed.

Aids in any form are expressly permitted, but by no means required. A brilliant lecture, completely without decoration, can be just as convincing as the support of a whole ballet ensemble or a simple potato cannon. Creativity knows no bounds in the Science Slam.
