The Heine Slam 2015

For weeks, the tension mounted as the faculties decided in their preliminary rounds which candidate they would send into the race for the Heine Slam trophy. The choice was not always easy. Already in the preliminary rounds, the slammers shone with highly interesting, amusing and very entertaining contributions and thus offered a deep insight into the potential of the respective faculty.

In the final of the Heine Slam 2015, the finalists of the five faculties delivered a terrific eye-to-eye competition in a hopelessly overcrowded lecture hall 3D, in the very first campus-wide Heine Slam ever. While the tandem Christian Simon Ollig and Mathias Bähr (Faculty of Law) devoted themselves to the extremely precarious legal situation of the animal as a thing, Gian Perrone (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) gave us an extremely vivid explanation of the battle between Bluetooth and W-LAN in the university network. Jens Südekum (Faculty of Economics) shone with a dialogue of dialects, presenting the cultural differences of idioms as possible causes of economic differences. Benjamin Kubo (Faculty of Medicine), on the other hand, convincingly demonstrated the success of his low-carb diet in a scientific self-experiment and by means of a very vivid live measurement of his abdominal girth.

Finally, the nonchalant finalist from the Faculty of Philosophy, Jutta Teuwsen, impressively convinced the audience with her cultural-historical reflection on whether all Japanese are actually perverts, or whether we are not rather exposed to cultural stereotyping in our respective societies. The enthusiastic audience raved and clapped, leading Jutta Teuwsen to victory in the 2015 Heine Slam.

At this point, we would like to pay tribute to all slammers for their extremely confident performance and their talent to entertain a colorful audience in a variety of scientific ways. We are very sorry that not all of them could fit into the lecture hall, but at the same time it motivates us to book the largest lecture hall of the university for the Heine Slam 2016 next year. After the slam is before the slam!

Thank you!

A brilliant Heine Slam 2015 is now decided and the trophy duly in the Faculty of Arts. Our thanks also go to our great guests. It's great that you were all there! Annette Rubin from the Sternverlag bookstore deserves a big thank you at this point, not only for the generous prizes from her bookstore, but and especially for all the effort she put into the individual book gifts for the slammers.

Of course, such a great event can only be organized and carried out together with great people and therefore a special thank you goes to our moderator team Debbie Radtke (iGRAD) and Tobias Löffler, to Benjamin Brinkmann (Dean of Medical Studies), who was responsible for the entire visual and media design of the event, to the technical team with Madeline Kraßnigg (philGRAD), Holger Duhme, Peter Ixkes (ZIM), Frederic Labudda & Team (IKM), Thomas Mennicken (AStA), to Daniel Cremer (event planning "50 years HHU"), Eugenie Franzen (medRSD) and last but not least to the organizing trio Simone Brandes (philGRAD), Ursula Kessen (medRSD) and Jost Sieweke (BWL).
