The Heine Slam 2016

Let it rain golden confetti for you!

Mathias Bähr and Nikolaus von Bargen from the Faculty of Law win the big campus-wide faculty competition

The bar for the madness show hung high after the debut of the Heine Slam last year, after the almost bursting atmosphere, the fun and the noise. But it succeeded and was far surpassed! The 2016 Heine Slam finale was a show unlike anything HHU has ever seen. Pure scientific entertainment, glitter and glamour, a feast for the senses and a party that will not be forgotten for a long time, that was the Heine Slam 2016. Those who were there could experience a true spectacle.

A show in a class of its own

Last Wednesday (June 29, 2016), for the second time in the young history of the Heine Slam, the best slammers from our five faculties competed against each other in an academic contest, a campus duel at the very highest level!

The largest lecture hall of the university was filled to capacity. Outside in the foyer, all those who could no longer get one of the coveted seats were able to experience the slams in a live broadcast. Equipped with yellow Airsticks and colorful light bands, the great audience created a fascinating atmosphere of metallic noise and iridescent glow.

While Nico Hoffmeister (Phil.-Fak.) in his slam "Für immer Chantal - Wenn ein Name zum Schicksal wird" (Forever Chantal - When a name becomes fate) soundly and most vividly explained through sociological theories of attractiveness what responsibility parents take upon themselves when naming their children and how a name can cement the course of an entire life, Darius Rupalla (Mat.-Nat. Fak.) provided highly insightful information with "Alles für den Arsch! - An Introduction to Rectal Dosage Forms" potential patients about the insertion possibilities of suppositories. On the other hand, Barbara Weißenberger (WiWi.-Fak.) examined from a professorial perspective what accounting has to do with targeted slowness in decision-making as well as pyrotechnics and chips in her contribution "After the bang is before the bust: Defusing cost bombs in time". In a sonorous voice, Mark Schlimgen (Med.-Fak.) drew the audience's attention in his confidence-inspiring slam performance "We only have to want? Motivation and Chairs in Psychotherapeutic Practice" almost hypnotically captivated everyone with his call for self-love of the inner pig. Finally, Mathias Bähr, who already represented his faculty in a worthy manner last year, also performed in tandem this year. This time, together with Nikolaus von Bargen (Faculty of Law), he uncovered the pitfalls of the delicate Böhmermann affair in a rhetorically excellent legal self-experiment, discussing the freedom of satire as an art form as a solution. The evening was led by the charmingly witty team of Debbie Radtke and Tobias Löffler.

Bursting tension until the end

The audience honored all slammers with minutes of clapping and thunderous use of the Airsticks. But the longest and loudest applause was finally for the lawyer duo! No sooner were the winners identified than there was a huge bang. Cleverly hidden cannons shot golden confetti down from the high ceilings of the lecture hall onto the winners of the 2016 Heine Slam trophy, Mathias Bähr and Nikolaus von Bargen. Heine University had never experienced such a special effect! But that was not all. The new "traveling trophy" was ceremoniously handed over and thus passed this year from the Faculty of Arts to the Faculty of Law.

The Show Goes On

This year, the challenge cup deservedly belongs to the Faculty of Law, but we can be curious to see whether it will be able to defend its challenge cup next year as well. Because after the Heine-Slam is before the Heine-Slam! And everyone gets a chance for revenge. The competition of the sciences continues: 2017.
